was founded in 1975, due to the tremendous need for culturally appropriate community-based senior services in San Benito County. A group of concerned citizens, comprised predominately of low income and Latino seniors, applied for non-profit status and prepared a grant proposal for a Senior Nutrition Site which included various social and recreational activities.
Using the resources of a community organizer, the group was able to attract adequate funding to implement a SENIOR NUTRITION PROGRAM, for Hollister, in 1975. The following year, a satellite site was opened in San Juan Bautista, and funds were obtained to provide INFORMATION and REFERRAL SERVICES for all of San Benito County.
Additionally implemented that year, were TRANSPORTATION and ESCORT SERVICES, to local and regional medical resources and for necessary shopping, in response to the lack of public transportation services.
Shortly thereafter, a HOME· DELIVERED MEAL PROGRAM was implemented. Jovenes de Antaño also received funding for an IN·HOUSE SERVICES REGISTRY PROGRAM for the elderly, for individuals ineligible for state-funded In-Home Supportive Services.
An ADULT DAY CARE PROGRAM was also realized to serve the population who suffer from memory and / or physical impairments.
THE FAMILY CAREGIVER SUPPORT PROGRAM, instituted in the Spring of 2002, provides for comprehensive needs' assessments, specialized education and counseling - services, caregiver respite opportunities, community education and assisted transportation.
Representation and counseling are provided, by Senior Legal Services, for grandparents, who are raising their grandchildren .
